ACTUAL ARTICLE

After Son of a Gunshot’s debut, you were extremely confident in interviews. Where’s your head at now?
Eliott Samson: I’m scared, because I don’t want to start to get comfortable. I don’t feel as though I’m too comfortable yet. But I suppose that’s really your opinion isn’t it!

Recently you’ve had a bit of competition from new band Beauty Horse, do you feel they’re a threat?
Eliott Samson: There’s always someone ahead. They make amazing music and their new single “You Can’t Make it Rain” is doing really well, which I suppose isn’t the best for us! If it wasn’t for them, I reckon we’d be on top of the world.

We’ve heard some of your fellow band mates, Duncan Smith and Marcus AmorĂ©, are both releasing solo singles at the end of this year. Have you considered it?
Eliott Samson: Not at all really. I feel part of a band, and would rather make it with my friends than alone. I’m more of a team player and wouldn’t enjoy the independence. But I think what they’re doing is great! Good for them!

If you did, what would your single sound like?
Eliott Samson: Immense.

Could you be more specific?
Eliott Samson: It would be more outrageous.

Most people find that you’re a very unique band, no copying involved. How do you feel about that?
Eliott Samson: We would rather be known as unique than as copycats. Our sound is very different to some indie bands. I am aware some band’s songs all sound rather similar, we are trying to avoid this as much as possible without sounding like a totally different band!

When I saw you on the cover of a magazine last year, my first reaction was, Oh God not another one! And once I listened to you I took that back! Do you think everyone will have had a similar reaction to me?
Eliott Samson: Yeah, I think we have our own style, but we are still a typical band as is anyone else, just we have a unique sound.

Let’s talk about “Vegas Love Affair”, was this song written because of events, maybe in Las Vegas?
Eliott Samson: No, it’s actually really deep! We’re not normally ones for the down and moody song types, but this song is about addiction to gambling and casinos. It’s about leaving your life behind for your love of gambling.

I see! Does this mean we’ll be hearing more meaningful songs or was that your first and last?
Eliott Samson: Well we’ll just have to see! Me and the lads are constantly brain storming for new songs we can put on the album. The ones we’re coming up with so far relate to what is happening in our lives at the moment, mostly the good times! We like to keep it light and not too down in the dumps. We prefer to keep everything up beat!

I’ve just recently seen you’re new music video. I love it! It’s so original and the locations are amazing! Do you tend to pick where you would like to locate your videos?
Eliott Samson: Most of the time yes. If not our manager Julie picks the places she feels the song reminds her of. We put our lives into her hands but it seems to work every time!

Good job really!
Eliott Samson: Ha, yeah! It’s hard to think of new locations when you’ve loved the last one so much!
